HEADLINE
TRANSFORMING WASTE
INTO VALUE
Industrial waste demands meticulous care. When it goes into the ground, it needs to stay there – safe and secure – without threatening the surrounding environment.
Our landfills, underground caverns and deep disposal wells are designed and built with the most advanced, proven technology and methods to protect people and the environment.
LANDFILLS
SALT CAVERN FACILITIES
WASTE DISPOSED
We own and operate the largest network of Class I and II landfills in Western Canada – strategically located to reduce trucking costs.
Our Pembina landfill is one of two Class I hazardous waste landfills in Western Canada. We always have specialized NORM technicians on-site to handle testing, waste characterization and transport.
Environmental protection drives the design, construction, operation and closure lifespan of our landfills. Each facility is equipped with:
» A multi-layer containment barrier
» In-cell leachate collection and removal systems
» Extensive groundwater monitoring with surface run-on/run-off controls
At every landfill, you’ll be met by an experienced, highly trained team that is equipped to handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Our underground salt caverns provide safe and secure storage for oilfield and industrial waste deep below the surface.
Slurry waste is pumped into the cavern. The salt acts as a protective barrier – trapping the waste and protecting against leaching.
Salt caverns, which have been used for decades to store liquified petroleum gas, natural gas and crude oil, are a safe and efficient option for the stable, long-term storage of industrial waste.
Our deep injection disposal wells are designed to provide safe, permanent disposal of industrial wastewater.
We accept both sweet and sour fluids associated with the drilling, completion and production of oil and gas and other industrial wastewaters.
Deep well disposal is only permitted in carefully selected areas. Our operations follow stringent rules and regulations and are monitored constantly.
SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY
MANAGING
NORM
Our tailored Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) solutions are designed with our customer in mind. The NORM management solutions we provide are cost-effective, reduce environmental liabilities and meet or exceed regulatory compliance and OH&S requirements.
Safely and effectively managing NORM is mandatory for the safety of those encountering it. Regulated by the provincial government bodies, the handling and disposal of NORM should only be handled by a person with radiation training.
ON-SITE NORM SERVICES INCLUDE:
» NORM surveys
» Sampling
» Decontamination
» NORM disposal
» NORM awareness training
FILTER SOCK DISPOSAL
Filter socks at water disposal facilities in the oil and gas industry have been found after use to contain elevated levels of NORM, specifically Ra-226, Ra-228, and Pb-210. This is most commonly seen in shale basins where there are naturally higher levels of NORM in the reservoir fluids.
