We believe that every individual, organization, industry and government have a responsibility to transition toward a lower carbon future. That includes us.  

SECURE is tackling this on two fronts. In our own operations, we are actively reducing emissions across all business segments, with a goal of reaching net-zero by 2050. Our greatest impact is through the work we do for our customers – providing safe and reliable waste disposal and recovery options that help them reduce their carbon footprint.

We’re also dedicated to creating value for our customers by providing innovative solutions that help reduce costs and emissions associated with industrial waste management and energy infrastructure.

SECURE'S CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

Our Climate Action Plan provides a path to our target of net-zero. We are investing in technology, formalizing fleet management systems, investigating the use of GHG offsets, increasing GHG monitoring and implementing more robust emission tracking to help us meet our targets and achieve our goals.

Short-Term Initiatives
  • Set baseline emission data of combined company 
  • Focus on measurement instrumentation implementation across facilities and landfills
  • Energy efficiency initiatives and audits to identify areas for improvement 
  • Explore potential for use of carbon offsets 
  • Reduce methane emissions 
  • Digitization of processes 
  • Explore technologies supporting the energy transformation including Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), Hydrogen, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) applications 
  • Reduce emissions associated with fleet alternative fuel and engine efficiency trials 
  • Explore the potential to apply internally generated offsets to reduce emissions 
Medium-Term Initiatives
  • Evaluate potential to implement a CCS project 
  • Trial various lower carbon intensity alternatives for fleet operations (hybrid, hydrogen) 
  • Transition fleet to less carbon intense fuels (biodiesel, RNG) 
  • Investigate and implement heat recovery projects 
  • Explore natural climate mitigation strategies such as planting trees 
  • Create carbon offset strategy for Scope 1 emissions that are difficult to abate

  • Transition fleet to low or zero emission vehicles 
  • Explore small scale renewable energy generation 
  • Use of lower emission energy for heat
